Empowering Women for Excellence Initiative (EWEI) is a Nigerian non-governmental organisation registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and relevant government institutions. Since 2008, EWEI has worked to advance the rights, wellbeing and opportunities of girls and women through multi-sectoral interventions that combine capacity building, advocacy, information dissemination and community service.

From grassroots communities to policy spaces, EWEI’s work is grounded in the belief that informed, empowered girls and women are critical to inclusive development, peace and social justice.

EWEI is a women-led organisation committed to promoting enlightenment, development, rights and participation for girls and women across Nigeria. Over the years, our interventions have supported survivors of violence, strengthened community leadership, improved access to education and livelihoods, and amplified women’s voices in civic and governance spaces.

Between 2008 and 2025, over 8.2 million girls, young people, men and women have directly benefited from EWEI’s programmes.

What We Do

EWEI designs and implements evidence-based programmes that respond to the realities faced by girls and women, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected communities. Our work spans education, protection, economic empowerment, civic participation and peacebuilding.

Through our programmes, EWEI:

  • Provides girls and women with training and information on gender-based violence, income generation and social entrepreneurship;
  • Supports girls’ education through subsidies that improve enrolment, retention and completion in public secondary schools;
  • Builds women’s capacity to engage community leaders and participate meaningfully in civic and governance processes;
  • Works with government institutions and partners to promote grassroots peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
